The ceremony to unveil the official logo of the Euro 2012 European Football Championship took place in Kyiv on Monday, an Interfax-Ukraine reporter has said.
The presentation of the logo was held on Mykhailivska Square in downtown Kyiv.
A model of a football pitch has been set up next to Mykhailivsky Cathedral, with a composition on it featuring the stalk of a flower with three branches. A ball is depicted around the central flower, with the left flower being red and white (the colours of Poland's flag) and the right flower being yellow and blue (the colours of Ukraine's flag).
Around 1,000 residents of Kyiv gathered on the square, welcoming Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko, Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, UEFA President Michel Platini, and President of the Ukrainian Football Federation Hryhoriy Surkis.
The slogan of the tournament, entitled "Creating History Together," was also presented at the ceremony.
Footballer Andriy Shevchenko, Ukrainian Family, Youth and Sports Minister Yuriy Pavlenko, Kyiv Mayor Leonid Chernovetsky, and representatives of the Polish Football Association attended the ceremony.
Red, while, yellow and blue balloons symbolizing the flags of Ukraine and Poland were released into the air during the ceremony.
